Sika produce a single pack paint known as Sikacore Icosit 6630 although this polyurethane single coat paint is suitable to be be applied to not only weathered but new galvanised steel is used for street furniture. Sikacore 6630 does not have an Item number but is still used for Highways applications, all of these paint coatings are available from Promain. Promain have been supplying paints to contractors for over 25 years and have produced specifications for many councils for their Lighting Columns, Traffic Lights, Railings, Bridges, Street Signs as well as other street furniture fittings such as benches.

The basic system implemented by the Highways Agency consists of degreasing then T Washing, only required if the substrate is new galvanised steel, then applying a zinc phosphate primer, an epoxy build coat followed by a polyurethane top coat in either a semi-gloss of gloss finish. There is a standard film thickness for each coat providing a total film thickness that will offer a life expectancy in excess of 10 years to first maintenance. For a longer lasting system there is a shop applied system based on an epoxy build coat followed by an Engineered Siloxane such as PPG PSX 700 offering a life expectancy of 25 years, this is the Highways Agency Item No.185.
